Pastiche: a memoir in poetry and prose, by Marjorie Pagel, hit the shelves in paperback last October. Now, you can grab your eBook copy as well.
Things To Love About This Book
The cover.
Created by the author’s grandson, the cover art brings a special touch to this collection of poetry and prose. Not only because of the ties between author and artist, but also because the image speaks so well to what you find within the pages: a quiet read, bits and pieces of defining moments, reflections on life from all sides.
The interior art.
Simple pencil drawings by one of my favorite Wisconsin artists, Jean Berens, that add to the mood and tone of a poem or essay. I love all of her artwork, but the one on page 29 is my favorite. (You’ll have to buy the book to see for yourself. *wink, wink) Something about that page as a whole makes me smile and breath a little easier.
The prose.
If you don’t know Marjorie Pagel, you’re missing out. In general, she’s pretty amazing — always writing, always eager to learn more about writing, always diving right into the work with no hesitation. But as Marilyn L. Taylor, Wisconsin Poet Laureate 2009-2010, says:
Marjorie Pagel’s beautifully-written collection of insights, images, and striking moments of spirituality comes as a welcome gift to all of us who are seeking respite from the world’s prevailing despair.
